How does Supply
Inventory Manager help me with how much do I need to order?
Along with timely replenishment of supplies,
ordering the right amount of the product is important to proper inventory
management.
Products can be assigned a reorder quantity.
This is the quantity that should be reordered to replenish this product.
Once you place an order for a product the reorder quantity is defaulted as
the order quantity for that product.
There are three main factors that go into
determining a good reorder quantity.
- How much of the product can reasonably be stored in your storage
area.
- Based on product consumption, how much product to we need on hand to
prevent frequent reorders.
- Do you get price breaks if you order a certain quantity of the
product at one time. For example, does the product come in packs of ten
or twenty or bulk cases that come at a discounted price.
The reorder quantity takes the guess work out
of what quantities of products you need to order. The reorder quantity can
be changed at any time as your needs change. The reorder quantity may
not make sense for all the products you order so it is an optional field.
What if I order the same products
from different vendors with price breaks at different order levels?
Supply Inventory Manager allows you to tie
vendors to products. You can have multiple vendors for a product and
assign one to be the primary vendor.
You can assign a different reorder quantity
to each product/vendor combination.
When you place an order for a product, the
program will look at the vendor for the order and use the reorder quantity
to default the order quantity for that product. Simply by selecting
the vendor for the order you will always get the proper reorder quantity for
whatever products you order for that vendor. The reorder quantity is
an optional field for the product so it can be used only for the products
that can make use of it. If there is no reorder quantity for the
product vendor combination, the order quantity will default to the reorder
quantity for the product. If that is also blank the order quantity
will default to the quantity of the last order placed, or 0 if no previous
orders exist for this product.
